I will be the first person to tell you that being a Soldier in todays Army is no easy task. There are stresses that most civilians cannot and would not understand. I have the honor and privdledge of being a Soldier in the United States Army and the actions of my peers never cease to amaze me. SGT Caleb Pike of the 3/2SCR Wolfpack put out an APB on a forum that I frequent from time to time. He was basically asking for any support that he could get and as a Soldier myself I NEVER hesitate to get involved with anything that will bring a deployed Soldier’s morale up a bit.

SGT Pike did a fantastic job of putting together an even and drawing in sponsors from all areas of the fitness and supplement industry. I will list these companies at the bottom of this blog post so that you can visit their websites as well. These companies showed love and support for deployed Soldiers without asking for ANYTHING in return. That alone deserves praise.

Please see the article below to go with the accompanying pictures. I will say no more as SGT Caleb Pike will cover all the hardships that these Soldiers had to endure while deployed and still trying to maintain their health and fitness.

FOB Normandy "Strength of the Pack" Strong Man and Bodybuilding Competition
by SGT Caleb Pike

Did you ever try and compete in a Strongman competition, when it was 120 Degrees? How about compete in a Bodybuilding contest, outdoors during a sand storm? Oh yeah and while you are doing this there are people out there just waiting to Blow you up too. The Men and Women of the 3rd Squadron of the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment needed something to take their minds off being far from home and family and these two contest did just that if only for a little while.

The Strongman was a total of five events starting at 0800, 8 A.M. for the non Military types. First event was a Max Bench/Squat/Deadlift. It was already 115 in the shade and the bar was burning hands. That didn’t stop the competitors in the under 200 Lbs. class from putting up some impressive numbers. SGT Peter Jocham hit a 315 that was matched by fellow lifters SGT Jacob Mundt and SSG Victor Brazfield. Later SSG Brazfield narrowly missed a 425 squat when his shorts suffered a blowout while in the low position! In the over 200 class SFC Carlos Valarezo had a 385 bench, 475 Squat and 495 Deadlift, just enough to pull ahead of SGT Joseph Hernandez who had a 522 Deadlift. SGT Ronnie Conley and SPC Daniel Bourguignon both hit an even 500 in the Deadlift. The next event was Military Press, 225 for Max reps. In the under 200 SPC Jeremiah Marcoe did 10 reps but was topped by SGT Jocham at 17 reps. SFC Valarezo did 20 in the larger man class. Next event was the Stryker tire flip, distance was 50 meters. The under 200 winner had a time of 54 seconds. Over 200 flip was won by SGT Hernandez with a time of 46 seconds. Next event was the Stryker Tow Bar carry for distance, sometimes known as the Farmers carry. It had gotten so hot by now the equipment had to be doused with water between each competitor due to the handle being too hot to touch even while wearing gloves. SFC Valarezo and SGT Hernandez continued to keep it interesting with SGT Hernandez carrying just 2 feet farther. SPC Marcoe was making a run at a win in the under 200. Last event was the Jeep Pull for a distance of 35 meters. SGT Mundt in the under 200 kept it interesting with the fastest pull of 17 seconds beating the best smaller man time by one second but the class was ultimately won by SGT Peter Jocham. Second place went to SGT Mundt, SPC Marcoe just slipped in to 3rd and SSG Brazfield took the 4th position in the field. In the over 200 SGT Ronnie Conley blew everyone away with a time of 15 seconds but it was not enough to take the class win. SGT Hernandez had the best effort this day winning the class followed by SFC Valarezo, SGT Conley and SPC Bourguignon. The overall Strongman was won by the over 200 class winner with only a 2 point spread between the class winners.

Now on to the Bodybuilding portion of the event. Earlier in the day there had been a large sand storm that was still whipping around a show time approached. In Iraq travel is restricted during storms so a few competitors missed the show. Soldiers kept asking if the show was going to be postponed. Every Bodybuilder knows….”The Show must go on”. There were two men in the short class SPC Alex Green and SGT Tyrone Palmer. Both men had trained hard for this contest, enduring 120 degree 12 days patrolling the towns and villages in area. SPC Green showed good symmetry and separation, posing with confidence earning him 2nd place. He had done his homework. SGT Palmer won the short class with a natural shape many people work years for to show at contest time. He had etched Abs, good Lats and a pleasing front double bicep. He can go far competing in the future. The tall class had 3 competitors, CPL Bryce Whetzel, SPC Chris Davis and SGT Joshua Wilke. SGT Wilke had gained 30 pounds in the gym during this deployment before cutting for this contest. If there had been a “Best Poser” award given, his routine done to a song from the movie Gladiator would have won it. Good overall development earned him 3rd place. The SPC Davis enjoyed his time on stage and it showed in his presentation, good abs and front double Bicep moved him in to in to 2nd place. CPL Whetzel took top honors in the tall class with good sized quads, stage presence like he had competed before and a nicely balanced physique. Of note there was a challenge issued to the audience to “Come up on stage” if you think you have what it takes. A Pose down ensued between SPC Lueth and SGT Boussard with Boussard taking the “I could do that” class. In the Pose down for the overall SGT Palmer just had too much for CPL Whetzel and earned the win. That wraps up the first and last “Strength of the Pack” Strongman and Bodybuilding contest of Iraq.

Thank you to all the sponsors, Musclemag International, Physical Innovations, BioHazard supplements, APT Prostraps and AXIS Labs. We could not have done it without your support.

Once again I would like to give a shout out to EACH and EVERY Service Member in Army, Navy, Air Force or Marines. I would also like to give a shout out to all the Department of Defense Civilians who are currently away from home keeping all of us safe here.

IDS New Whey is probably the most convenient protein supplement available. A little while ago I had a job that kept me on the run……….literally. Sometimes I would have to carry large amounts of equipment throughout the day to include 2 backpacks and a large rolling 25" bag at the same time. The pace was fast and there were times where catching a meal were not actually an option. Well as a bodybuilder there are things that you MUST have and your daily amounts of protein are essential.

IDS New Whey provides up to 42 grams of protein with little to no sugar or carbs whatsoever. That makes all the difference in the world when you can't really compromise on your carb cycling. The packaging definitely seals the deal for me. I have tried and tried to destroy the tube that the protein comes in for testing purposes. I will say that anything short of whacking the top with a sledge hammer just won't cut it. I have thrown them, dropped them from 15 feet and kicked them around.

They are travel friendly at right at 3.1oz you wont really have any problem getting them on an airplane unless the TSA agent is really concerned with that .1oz. I haven’t had any issues as of yet even with international travel. The taste is strong when you drink it right from the tube however of you mix it with equal parts water if there is time them it actually taste pretty good. On a scale of 1-10 I would give the taste a 6 from the tube and about an 8 with water or juice. I would HIGHLY recommend this protein for anyone with a fast pace high impact job, Soldiers, City work professionals, Students with limited time or anyone looking for a super convenient protein supplement.

PROS

- Size. This is definitely the highlight of this supplement. The round tube can fit into almost any bag or pursue for the women. Its only 3.1oz so its quick to drink even if you mix it with equal parts water its just over 6oz.

- Its not heavy to the stomach. You can drink this pre-workout without getting an upset stomach when you start to push to the max. - Packaging. The unbreakable tube has become such a friend to me that once I drink the protein I wash out the tube and use it for other supplements.

- Price. I have to say that initially I thought that it was tad expensive until I did the math. You get 12 tubes at $30 which is $2.50 per 42 gram serving. Compare at most protein bars which are usually $3 per bar, no where near 42 grams of protein and almost always full of
carbs. I look at New Whey as the way to go if there is a possible grab and go situation.

- The New Whey tubes come in 2 varieties (25 grams and 42 grams) and 4 flavors (Blue Raspberry, Fruit Punch, Grape and Orange)

CONS

- Taste. Now this is nit picking because I don't mind the taste (but I use my supplements for the essential reason that it's NEEDED rather than the taste) in saying that I will say that it doesn’t taste bad just strong when taking it straight from the tube. It is however pleasant when mixed with equal parts water.

- Question about the bio availability. The jury is still out as to how much protein you are actually getting. A lot of liquid supplements are short on stability however IDS makes pretty good supplements so I will give them the benefit of the doubt.

Overall I would recommend this protein supplement for anyone on the go!!!!

I take a very wide array of supplements for a few reasons:

  1. To test them out on my self (as well as my personal group of testers) to see if a product actually live up to label claims.
  2. Because I am a Soldier and I have physical requirements out side of the bodybuilding arena. There are aerobic activities that I have to be able to perform and still try to maintain my personal level of muscularity.
With that being said I searched out a supplement that would help me maintain higher levels of endurance during a low carbohydrate pre-contest diet. I have to admit that this is a very unique supplement as the effects have a way of sneaking up on you.
The primary ingredient in IntraXcell is Beta-alanine. Beta-alanine is an amino acid (the only naturally occurring beta amino acid. The actual properties and benefits are enormous, especially from an athletic aspect. I will elaborate on my specific applications and experiences.
Well what I read on the bottle and in the description was that it would help me improve my anaerobic and aerobic conditioning by increasing carnosine which acts as a hydrogen ion buffer. Hydrogen ions cause your pH to drop (become more acidic) which in turn leads to fatigue in the muscle itself. This is all very compelling but the overall question is does it deliver? So I put it to the test. Most research states that you will feel the effects at about the 3 week point and sometimes you will begin to feel it at 1 week. I am usually very skeptical of supplements that say that you have to take this product for 4-8 weeks so that you have to buy 2-3 bottles of the product at $59.99 each then to have absolutely nothing happen except for the loss of about $180.00.
I was looking for a happy medium of about 2 weeks. One bottle was all that I was prepared to buy as that would last a full 30 days if taken as directed. Well at about the 1 week and a half period I started to notice that my usual 3 running mile route was becoming easier and easier. I was breathing easier and my legs were not sore at all. I was stuck at a plateau for about 2 months and could not break that 24 minute barrier so this was actually a very good gauge for the product.
At about the 3 week point I had broken my 24 minute barrier. At 5 weeks I was down to a 21minute 3 mile with little or no fatigue. As a matter of fact one time I continued on for 1 more mile to see if I could maintain the pace and sure enough I ran 4 miles in 28 minutes. My reps in the gym also increased exponentially. I always feel like I can do more. The days of 10 reps to burn were gone. It seems as if my lactic acid build-up is non-existent.
That was MY personal experience and 10 out of 10 of my testers experienced similar results during cardio and in the gym.
This is the real deal. There are now several Beta-alanine supplements out there but I will say that IntraXcell is still hands down the best one out…………..PERIOD!!!
PROS
- Aerobic conditioning will improve greatly. I experienced a greater ability to breathe and utilize oxygen within my body especially while running long distances or sustained long duration cardio.
- Anaerobic performance also improved greatly. Using 225lbs as a guide on the bench press I was able to do 10-12 repetitions consistently for my starting work set. After 4 weeks of supplementation my repetitions increased from the 10-12 range to the 18-20 range at 225lbs. The same quality of results could be found in all exercises that I performed.
- From a bodybuilding perspective you will have to be careful as your normal workout will not seem like its enough. Just increase your weight and enjoy the progress!!! You will become harder and slightly more vascular as well. I think that the hardening is due more to the increase in weight and reps and the vascularity is a result of the increased fat loss.
CONS
- The smell of the pills!!! They smell horrible however I haven’t actually had any supplements in pill form that smell pleasant. These just happen to smell worse than the rest. Take them fast and they will not have an adverse effect on your breath.
- The tingling sensation that you will get. It is definitely dose dependent but it can be strong, very strong and will last for 15 minutes or longer sometimes. I actually have grown to like it and look forward to it as it shows me that it has indeed hit my system. Some of my testers had to break the dose down to less capsules more times throughout the day to keep the tingling effects low. I personally think that’s a good idea for sensitive individuals.
If you are looking for a supplement that will improve every aspect of your performance and work *synergistically with your existing supplementation then this is definitely it. You will not be disappointed. Buy more than one bottle (you wont hear me say that often) as you will not want to run out of this product!!!
* Synergy - refers to the phenomenon in which two or more discrete influences or agents acting together create an effect greater than that predicted by knowing only the separate effects of the individual agents. It is originally a scientific term.

ATRO-PHEX by BSN

In the world of Hard Core Ephedra free fat burners ATRO-PHEX is KING!!! I have taken numerous fat burners and I will say that I just have not found any that really got me excited after the great ephedra ban. Well guess what___ I am once again excited. I will say that BSN has done it again!!!!! If you are looking for a total transformation then this is definitely the best supplement that I have tried thus far. Not only is it a fat burner but it has diuretic properties as well which helps take that layer of water from directly under the skin, which leaves you looking leaner and more vascular.

PROS:
- If you are into an energy supplement that will raise your body temp or you are one the few folks in the world like me that prefer to "feel" a supplement working then this will provide that feeling.
- You will sweat.
- While doing cardio you will sweat A LOT!!!
- sucks that layer of water from up under the skin to give a more vascular look
- There is no "crash" once you come down off of the supplement
- You will begin to see results with a regulated diet in about a week
- More than just a fat burner, its a total physique transformer
- I would actually recommended this for the last phase of pre-contest prep

CONS:
- Excessive trips to the bathroom (and I mean for both reasons)
- You will sweat
- High doses required for those of us that take or have taken a lot of supplements
- Expensive per dose (however you get what you pay for)
- Weird and non-practical packaging (at least for me it is)

I would tell anyone to first regulate their diet and water intake as to get maximum effects out of this supplement. I would not really recommend this for beginners as it might tend to turn some of them off due to the fast acting and extreme nature of the results.

I really pride myself in giving real reviews and I don’t hold anything back. If you ask me if a product works and it doesn’t then I will tell you. If a product makes it to my review section then you can bet that it has made an impression on me.

A few companies have really came through with some stellar products and I don’t know where Axis Labs has been hiding but mark my words they will jump to the forefront of conversations about supplement companies to trust! Of the 3 products that I have tested by them so far (along with my personal team of beta-testers) all 3 BLEW ME AWAY!!!!

As most of you all that are reading this may know about me by now, one of the things that I look for in a supplement is something that I can “feel”. That may very well sound like something that is obvious to look for but trust me there are many supplements out there that leave a lot of things to be dependent on the “end result of 4 to 6 weeks” of taking their product. Well call me old fashion but I don’t think that I should have to wait a full month for results if my diet and training are drum tight.

HyperTEST is one of those products that I can “feel”. As with any testosterone booster you should expect gains in strength and an overall feeling of well being. I will state for the record that this is the strongest test booster that I have taken to date. After about 2 days my one true gauge (sex drive) was through the roof. The true test in my eyes of any testosterone booster should be your newfound “sexual awareness”. I had an overwhelming feeling of well being and to tell the truth it actually went over to feeling a little “cocky” about my abilities. I found myself pushing harder and running faster than I had in a long time. I am now on a pre-contest diet and usually with a caloric deficit you would expect a slight strength decrease (especially if you are training all natural or if you prefer you can use the term over the counter OTC). My strength has actually increased and along with the Hemodraulix (also by Axis) my rep count has been through the roof.
If you are looking for a product that delivers without going the route of pro-hormones then your search should stop right here.

PROS

- Ok so this is a biggie for me but I really like the Extreme Sex Drive, I don’t have a problem in that area but who doesn’t like feeling like a 24 hour dynamo?
- Increase in strength VERY visible even while on a calorie restricted diet
- The feeling of I can do anything, anytime and anywhere.
- Somehow it has increased my cardio vascular function as well. I am running stronger and further in less time.
- A noticeable increase in fat burning. Along with the cardio training it seems as if my cardio training has become even more effective in burning body fat.
CONS
- Drink plenty of water as the capsules are about average size but you have to take 4 so if you have a problem with capsules then you should make sure that your throat is well lubricated. (you should be drinking plenty of water with supplements anyhow, especially in the summer!!!)
- Ok this is the problem that I have with most supplement companies so this isn’t just about Axis. The bottle contains 120 capsules. If taken as directed which is 4 before bedtime and 2 before the workout it will not cover a 30 day period. I am on a budget. Its just easier if my supplements cover the month so that I can order at the same time every month as a lot of us do. If the bottle contained 160 caps then this would be a dead issue. I don't think that the majority of us would mind the meager increase in price if it covered the entire 30 day period. (mind you this is just nit-picking but its important to me and my crew so it might be important to you.)
Well as you can see there are only 2 CONS if you can actually call them that. I have to be honest I can’t really find anything bad to say from a functional standpoint about this product. It delivers!!!!

Greetings!!!

This will be my special reviews page. I am one of those folks that will embrace technology every chance I get. I like TOYS!!! I am a Soldier in the United States Army and have been for the last 16 years. Also on the flip side I am a Bodybuilder therefore I take supplements to help me on my quest to be the best. With all that being said the bottom line is that I am in the perfect position to give honest and up front opinion on anything that I use. From Dietary Supplements to Electronics and everything in between. If there is a product that you would like to know about please ask. If I have not used it I will gladly let you know but chances are that I probably have a small amount of knowledge on most things folks find interesting, lol.
